Legs are a little longer than the width from the withers to the belly.

The Trapezoid Method of Construction

The proportions of a horse are referred to as its conformation. A horse with good conformation is balanced and generally fits within a trapezoid shape. The length of the dip in the back between the withers and hip should be one-third of the length from the rump to the chest. This is a great tool to use when sketching out your horse to help with overall proportions.
